Kenyan motorists will pay the same at the pump until October 14, 2026: the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) kept maximum retail prices unchanged in its September 14 review. In Nairobi, Super Petrol sells at Sh214.03 a litre, diesel at Sh217.86 and kerosene at Sh191.38. The cycle runs from September 15 and the next review is due by mid-October.

Kenya Milk Price Ksh65 Per Litre: What Farmers Should Know

October 26, 2026

What are the fuel prices in Kenya in October 2026?

The prices below are EPRA’s maximum allowed pump prices per litre and include VAT. They are unchanged from the previous cycle.

Town Super Petrol (Sh) Diesel (Sh) Kerosene (Sh)
Mombasa 210.87 214.58 188.09
Nakuru 212.92 217.27 190.81
Kisumu 213.69 218.08 191.63
Nairobi 214.03 217.86 191.38
Nyeri 215.90 219.87 193.38
Meru 218.67 222.85 196.35
Garissa 220.40 224.70 198.21
Mandera 234.68 240.04 213.56

Prices rise with distance from Mombasa, the import entry point. Super Petrol in Mandera costs Sh23.81 more a litre than in Mombasa, a gap that reflects transport costs to the north.

Why did EPRA leave prices unchanged?

Petrol got cheaper to import, but diesel and kerosene did not. EPRA’s review shows the landed cost of petrol fell about 7.87 per cent to roughly Sh113.39 a litre. Diesel rose 11.86 per cent to Sh124.17, and kerosene rose 9.71 per cent to Sh130.22. The shilling held at about Sh129.72 to the dollar.

The regulator said a fall in the international or landed cost of petrol “does not automatically translate into an equivalent reduction in the maximum retail price”, because the pump price also carries transport costs, oil company margins, taxes and levies. Holding prices flat, it said, gives motorists and businesses stability while costs move in opposite directions.

When is the next EPRA fuel price review?

EPRA announces new maximum prices on the 14th of each month, and they take effect from the 15th. The next announcement is therefore due on or before October 14. Expect it to be shaped by the same factors: landed costs of each product, the exchange rate and the levies built into the price.

October 14 is also a date to watch in the energy sector more broadly; see our Dangote Lamu refinery court order explainer for what is due before then.

What does this mean for household budgets?

Diesel is the fuel to watch. It powers matatus, lorries and farm machinery, so a rise in its landed cost tends to filter into transport fares and the price of goods. Kerosene, still used for cooking and lighting in many households, also got costlier to import, though the pump price held. Our coverage of August 2026 inflation shows how transport and energy costs feed into the wider cost of living, and the EPRA electricity charges for September 2026 cover the other side of the energy bill.

  • Check the maximum price on EPRA’s website before you fill up; stations may not charge above it.
  • Prices differ by town, so use the figure for the nearest listed town.
  • The next cycle’s prices will replace these from October 15.

Frequently asked questions

How much is petrol in Nairobi right now?

As of early October 2026, Super Petrol costs a maximum of Sh214.03 a litre in Nairobi under EPRA’s September 15 to October 14 cycle.

Why is diesel more expensive than petrol in Kenya?

Diesel’s landed cost, at about Sh124.17 a litre, is higher than petrol’s, at about Sh113.39. Its Nairobi pump price is Sh217.86 against Sh214.03 for petrol.

Do fuel prices include VAT?

Yes. EPRA says the announced maximum retail prices include Value Added Tax and are set under Kenya’s petroleum pricing framework.

Where can I find the official price list?

EPRA publishes each month’s maximum retail prices for all towns on its website at epra.go.ke.
