Kenya’s Harambee Stars have been placed in a challenging Group A for the upcoming Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) set for August. The group features African football powerhouses Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.

Despite the formidable opposition, Football Kenya Federation president McDonald Mariga remains optimistic about Kenya’s prospects.
“We are undoubtedly in the group of death, but I believe we have prepared adequately for any opponent,” Mariga asserted.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya viewed the tournament’s postponement as an advantage, providing more time for preparation. Speaking at the CHAN 2024 draw held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, he encouraged East African nations to maximize the opportunity.

“The postponement is a blessing in disguise. It gives us more time to enhance infrastructure and prepare our teams,” Mvurya noted, emphasizing the tournament as both a test run for AFCON and a chance to boost regional tourism.

Sports Ministers from Uganda and Tanzania echoed similar sentiments, affirming their readiness to host and ensure a successful event in collaboration with Kenya.

Group Stages

  • Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
  • Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
  • Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea
  • Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria

Two additional teams are yet to confirm their participation in the tournament.
