A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) female soldier has died in a suspected suicide case in Kahawa Sukari, Kiambu County.
Officials reported that Precious Mabonga, 24, was found on April 24, hanging from metal bars in her bathroom. Stationed at Kahawa Barracks, she is believed to have used a manila rope to take her own life.
Investigations revealed Mabonga had attempted suicide previously on March 25, 2025, and was later treated at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital for Recurrent Depressive Disorder. Medication for depression was also found at the scene.
Her body was taken to the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital for an autopsy.
Suicide cases among security forces, including soldiers and police officers, have been increasing, often linked to job pressures and exposure to trauma. Authorities are continuing efforts to tackle the mental health crisis affecting service members.
