The burial service for the late Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were is ongoing at Karabok Primary School in Homa Bay, drawing thousands of mourners and prominent political leaders. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula is already present, with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga expected. Were was fatally shot on April 30, 2025, near City Mortuary by a motorcycle-riding gunman. Ten suspects have been arrested and charged. His body arrived in Oyugis on May 8, escorted by a large convoy that caused temporary shutdowns in towns along the route. A night vigil was held at his Kachien home ahead of the burial. The burial site was chosen to accommodate the large crowd, with leaders from various political affiliations attending.
