For over 50 years, the Abdullahi family has cared for Kaduna’s Tudun Wada Cemetery, handling burials without formal pay. They dug graves, washed corpses, and maintained the site, relying on small donations.
Recently, the local council chairman put them on payroll, with salaries ranging from $13 to $28 a month—still below the minimum wage. Plans are underway to improve security, repair fencing, and build a facility for corpse preparation.
Despite hardships, the family remains dedicated, hoping the next generation will continue their work.
