Three Ivorian nationals were arrested in Kericho while attempting to obtain Kenyan passports using forged identification documents. The suspects—Godian Romeo Osundwa, Dante Odhiambo Nyakombo, and Bruce Danilo Felicien—had Kenyan IDs and birth certificates, which appeared genuine.
Immigration officials became suspicious when the trio, accompanied by a woman from Kapkatet, Bureti, struggled to speak Swahili and couldn’t identify their native language. It was later confirmed they were from Ivory Coast.
They were detained at Kericho Police Station and are to be transferred to Nakuru for further investigations into how they obtained the documents.
This incident adds to a growing trend of foreigners, especially from Somalia, using fake Kenyan papers. Immigration officers have been directed to remain vigilant.
In related operations, 28 Ethiopians were arrested in Mandera en route to Nairobi without valid documents, while 17 Burundians were detained in Thika for being in the country illegally. Most are believed to use Kenya as a transit point to other destinations like South Africa and the Middle East.
