The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into a shooting involving officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station in Nairobi, which left two people dead and three others seriously injured in Majengo.
IPOA Chairperson Ahmed Hassan stated that the probe aligns with the Authority’s mandate to investigate police misconduct. A forensic team, alongside officers specializing in monitoring public order management, was dispatched to gather details on the incident.
The confrontation began on Tuesday evening when officers attempted to arrest a suspect near Majengo Social Hall, drawing the attention of local youth. The situation escalated, resulting in the shooting of a 17-year-old boy, who later died at Kenyatta National Hospital, sparking protests the following day. The demonstrations led to further injuries, property destruction, and clashes between police and protesters.
Hassan extended condolences to the victims’ families and urged the public to maintain peace. IPOA also deployed a team to monitor police actions during demonstrations at Kakuma refugee camp. He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to impartiality in handling the investigations.
