Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has come under scrutiny once more following a new case filed at the Milimani Law Courts concerning the disappearance of Wajir MCA Yussuf Hussein.
Yussuf’s family is seeking a court order to compel both the IG and the DCI to produce him in court. Through lawyer Danstan Omari, Abdikadir Ahmed, who is representing Yussuf’s family, reports that Yussuf has been missing from South B Estate since the night of September 13, 2024. Ahmed alleges that Yussuf was forcibly removed from a taxi he had ordered at 8 PM on that date.
Ahmed expresses concerns that Yussuf may have been abducted by officers associated with the IG and DCI, as his whereabouts remain unknown and unaccounted for. The family has been denied access to visit Yussuf or to have him appear before a court.
This comes just a week after Masengeli was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison for disobeying court orders related to the disappearance of three men in Kitengela on August 19, 2024. Masengeli has since appealed the sentence, and the fate of the three men remains unresolved.
In the current case, Ahmed highlights that despite two official reports being filed regarding Yussuf’s disappearance, no one has accounted for his location. The taxi driver involved has sworn an affidavit confirming he reported the incident and received an official report for the events that evening.
Ahmed also notes that during a meeting at Makadara police station, the family was informed that Yussuf’s phone was in their custody, as reported by the taxi driver.
The family’s documents state, “Unless this court intervenes and orders the respondents to produce Yussuf, we will continue to endure the anxiety and stress caused by the enforced disappearance and abduction of our loved one.”
