The Ministry of Lands has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing to resolve the longstanding land dispute in Narok County between the family of the late former Nyanza Provincial Commissioner Isaiah Cheluget and current occupants.
Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir dismissed recent media reports as misleading, emphasizing that discussions with the Cheluget family are progressing, with the goal of having the government purchase the contested 5,800-acre land. President William Ruto had earlier announced the plan, assuring residents they would not be evicted.
The land, which has been occupied by around 600 people since the early 2000s, has been the subject of multiple court rulings in favor of the Cheluget family. Despite this, the government is committed to a peaceful resolution that considers the rights of all parties and addresses historical land injustices in the region.
