Gor Mahia players have resumed training following a three-day standoff that led to the cancellation of their trip to Nigeria for the Coal City tournament.

Last week, the players boycotted training after their request for a share of the Sh5 million prize money, following their FKF Premier League victory, was denied. Club chairman Ambrose Rachier informed them that such demands were not stipulated in their contracts and therefore they were not entitled to the league-winning prize.

The management subsequently issued formal show cause letters to the players, requiring them to justify their absence from duty, particularly in light of their disappointing performance at the Cecafa tournament in Tanzania last month.

According to sources, the players resumed training on Saturday morning at Mpesa Foundation grounds, with the entire squad passing fitness tests before engaging in intense passing drills and small-sided games. “Everything is back to normal,” one source confirmed.

Gor Mahia’s new head coach, Leonardo Neiva, expressed satisfaction after the club clinched four awards at the recent FKF Gala awards. He is optimistic about their upcoming fixture against South Sudan’s Al Merrreikh in the CAF Champions League preliminaries on August 18 in Juba.

Meanwhile, Rachier emphasized that all official communications from the club will now be handled exclusively by himself and Secretary-General Ochola. “According to the constitution, the club’s official spokespersons are the secretary-general and myself,” Rachier stated. He clarified that he will not be responsible for announcing details like the club’s AGM date; such information should officially come from Ochola.
