Gikambura village in Kiambu County erupted in celebrations as Alvin Karanja, a 17-year-old from Alliance High School, excelled in the 2024 KCSE exams, scoring an impressive A plain with 83 points.
“I’m very excited because my hard work has paid off,” said Karanja, attributing his success to support from his teachers and meticulous study habits. He plans to pursue a career in law but has yet to decide on a university.
Karanja’s mother, Terry Mwangi, expressed pride in her second-born son’s performance, crediting his disciplined routine and the guidance of his father, an Alliance Boys alumnus.
In the 2024 KCSE exams, 962,512 candidates sat, marking a 7.19% increase from 2022. For the first time, female candidates slightly outnumbered males, with 482,202 females (50.10%) and 480,310 males (49.90%).
Counties with a significant male candidate majority included Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir, among others.
