The Garissa Water and Sewerage Company has assured residents of a steady water supply throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
With Muslims set to begin fasting in a week, concerns have arisen over recent inconsistencies in water availability. However, Gawasco Managing Director Mohammed Dolal confirmed that measures have been implemented to ensure all households receive sufficient water.
“We recently acquired new pumps through the governor’s support, increasing our water intake from the river and expanding our reach to more customers,” Dolal stated during an inspection of the Garissa Township water treatment plant.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving water infrastructure and services, adding that water boosters would be deployed to areas experiencing shortages.
“This initiative is part of our continued efforts to support the community, especially during this sacred period of fasting and reflection,” he said.
Dolal also warned against illegal connections and vandalism of the company’s infrastructure, emphasizing strict consequences for offenders.
To enhance efficiency, Gawasco has introduced a smart billing system to streamline revenue collection and improve customer service. The system automates billing, meter reading, SMS notifications, and payments, eliminating paperwork and reducing errors.
“Our customers will now receive accurate bills and hassle-free payments, while we benefit from increased revenue and lower operational costs,” Dolal noted, adding that staff had been trained to ensure a smooth transition.
Gawasco’s head of laboratory, Mohammed Guyo, assured residents that the water meets all safety standards for human consumption.
On Monday, Governor Nathif Jama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing clean and reliable water across the county, making it a key priority under his leadership.
