Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has organized a series of events in Eldoret leading up to its city status conferment by President William Ruto on August 8.

Currently, Eldoret is hosting the National Schools Music Festival at Moi Girls High School.

Yesterday, Bii inaugurated the Eldoret Business Expo at Zion Mall, urging residents and local businesses to embrace the city status. “With city status, Eldoret will become a prime business hub, and we must collaborate to seize opportunities and create jobs for our people,” he stated.

The schedule includes an Economic Summit today, followed by a sports day tomorrow. On Sunday, an inter-denominational prayer service will be held, with a conference for the Association of City Planners on Monday and the Sisibo Cultural Extravaganza on Tuesday. The Governor’s Gala Night is set for Wednesday, August 7, with President Ruto and other guests expected to arrive.

Bii mentioned, “We are working closely with all stakeholders to ensure a successful celebration.” He has also extended invitations to all governors for the event.

On Monday, Bii met with North Rift governors, including Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Elgeyo Marakwet’s Wisley Rotich, and Turkana’s Jeremiah Lomurukai. Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and regional MPs were also in attendance. “We are eager to welcome the President and all guests as we celebrate Eldoret’s new status,” Bii added.

In preparation for the occasion, the county has waived all related charges for 10 days to assist businesses in beautifying the town. Building owners have been requested to repaint their premises as the county finalizes other preparations.

Sang highlighted that Eldoret’s elevation to city status would benefit the entire region, reinforcing its role as a key regional hub.
