The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on May 29, 2025, asked a Milimani court for permission to detain three suspects for 15 days over the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi. The DCI claims Koimburi was kidnapped from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha and that his condition remains critical, although doctors have not released an official report.
Investigators argue that releasing the suspects now could interfere with the probe, especially as Koimburi has not recorded a statement. The DCI further noted that the incident has triggered national tension and political unrest, given Koimburi’s affiliation with the opposition Democracy for the Citizens Party. Meanwhile, preliminary findings suggest the MP may have staged his disappearance, as he allegedly returned home and discussed pursuing legal action to recover his impounded vehicle. A fourth suspect was arrested on May 29. The court will rule on the DCI’s application on May 30.
