Dadaab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim appeared before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Tuesday, following a summons issued last week. His appearance was in response to concerns regarding statements he allegedly made about the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill, 2024.
During the session, Maalim recorded a statement regarding remarks deemed potentially incendiary by the NCIC. The commission noted that his comments could incite hostility and discrimination, undermining the peaceful coexistence of diverse political groups in Kenya.
“Hon. Farah Maalim is currently recording a statement in response to the earlier summons issued by the commission,” NCIC stated on X. “The utterances may evoke feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence, or discrimination, contrary to Section 13 (1) (a) of the NCI Act.”
Maalim had initially been summoned to appear on July 11, 2024, to assist with the ongoing investigation.
In a video shared on his social media, Maalim denied allegations that he advocated violence against Gen Z protesters. He firmly rejected claims that he called for the death of the youth during the anti-tax protests, asserting that such statements do not reflect his views.
“I never called for the death of any Kenyans. I didn’t, and I will never call for it,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to integrity.
Maalim described himself as a leader of integrity, with over 30 years of experience in Kenyan politics, and vowed to uphold the reputation he has built. “I am an honest person, and my track record is unmatched by very few,” he added, reinforcing his dedication to serving the country in accordance with his conscience.
