In response, over ten House Democrats have called for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, with Vermont Senator Peter Welch being the first to publicly make this request. Brookings Institution Senior Fellow Darrell West noted that there is a growing sentiment within Biden’s own party for him to step aside and allow for a new candidate ahead of the Democratic convention.
On Wednesday, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a longtime ally of Biden, refrained from endorsing his continued candidacy, emphasizing that it is ultimately the president’s decision while acknowledging the limited time available.

Biden hosted a NATO summit in Washington this week, making efforts to reassure constituents about his age and mental fitness. However, he stumbled during the event, misidentifying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and referring to Vice President Kamala Harris incorrectly.
