Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Secondary School, Shimo la Tewa School, Light Academy Mombasa, and Matuga Girls Secondary School have emerged among the top performers in the Coast region, showcasing remarkable results in the 2023 KCSE exams.
By Thursday afternoon, these schools recorded multiple top grades. Sheikh Khalifa Secondary, with 213 candidates, reported three A plains, seven A-, and a projected mean grade of B+, according to Principal Rishad Rajab. He noted the school achieved a 9.4 mean grade in 2023 and anticipates a slight improvement to 9.5 this year.
The top three students at Sheikh Khalifa, Farouq Ali (82 points), Uzair Hussein, and Najma Njambi, all earned A plains. Farouq, from Kwale County, plans to study medicine at the University of Nairobi, while A- scorer Saad Said Twaha aspires to become an engineer.
At Light Academy, Hamid Ali emerged as the top student with 84 points (A plain). The school, with 81 candidates, has so far achieved a mean grade of 9.5. Ali, who enjoys Math, Chemistry, and IRE, expressed interest in pursuing engineering abroad.
Shimo la Tewa School, the only boys’ national school in Mombasa, recorded an A (81 points), seven A-, and several B+ grades. Principal Mathew Mutiso expressed optimism about surpassing the school’s 2023 performance.
Matuga Girls Secondary School also produced top results, with its highest scorer, Hellen Ndanu, earning an A. Additional results were still being verified at the time of reporting.
Educators attributed the success to discipline, hard work, and early preparations, with parents lauding the importance of education as the best investment for children’s futures.
