In a notable continuation of a recent trend among church leaders, politicians accompanying President William Ruto at a church service in Bomet were again barred from speaking.
The President was attending the official opening and dedication of the newly completed Chebango AGC Church in Sotik.
Governor Hillary Barchok, who hosted the event, was among those affected by this protocol.
Elected leaders present included Senator Hillary Sigei, Dagoreti South MP John Kiarie, Mwangi Kiunjuri (Laikipia East), Francis Sigei (Sotik), Brighton Yegon (Sotik), and JSC Commissioner Isaac Rutto. Roads Cabinet Secretary nominee Davis Chirchir, a supporter of the church’s construction, was also in attendance.
Bishop Robert Langat, who led the service, acknowledged the politicians but did not permit them to address the congregation. He briefly recognized their presence and invited Ruto to speak.
“Our leaders here today, please stand wherever you are… we appreciate your presence,” Bishop Langat said. “We love you very much, and may God bless you.”
In his remarks, President Ruto emphasized the importance of maintaining the church’s sanctity.
“The church is a sacred place, and we will honor it accordingly. Any political discourse will be reserved for outside the church to uphold the respect it deserves,” he stated.
