Tension is high in Ruai, Nairobi County, following the demolition of Jesus Christ Our Hope Ministry Church in what church leaders are calling a mistaken eviction tied to a land dispute. According to Archbishop Wallace Gitau Chiri, the church was unexpectedly razed by a group of men armed with crude weapons while individuals believed to be police officers watched from a parked vehicle. The destruction left the compound in ruins, with property damage estimated at over Sh1 million.
Chiri claimed the eviction was unlawful, stating the court order cited a different parcel of land—LR No. 60—while the church sits on LR No. 160. Court documents support the claim, revealing the order was issued in March 2025 with police supervision, but no confirmation has been made regarding the targeted plot. Ruai Police Commander Martin Wasike denied involvement by local officers and labelled the demolition illegal, noting investigations are underway. The church, home to over 80 orphans and vulnerable children, now seeks urgent government intervention as it grapples with the aftermath.
