Edward Sebuufu, better known as Eddie Mutwe and a key bodyguard of Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine, has been charged with aggravated and simple robbery following his mysterious disappearance. His arrest was later confirmed by Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the president’s son and army chief, who admitted on social media to detaining him and even threatening to castrate him.
Sebuufu’s lawyer, Magellan Kazibwe, revealed that his client had been severely tortured during detention, allegedly electrocuted and beaten with electric wires, leaving him in severe pain and barely able to walk. He was seen in court barefoot and shielded by security forces to prevent media coverage.
Human rights groups and Uganda’s Human Rights Commission have condemned the arrest and treatment, calling for his immediate release. Civil society organizations argue this is part of a broader crackdown on opposition voices ahead of the 2026 elections, where long-serving President Museveni is expected to face Bobi Wine once more.
