
Seasoned diplomat and peacebuilding expert Frederic Gateretse-Ngoga will be among the key speakers at the NGO Stakeholders Summit 2026, bringing more than two decades of experience in international peace, governance and regional security affairs.
Ambassador Ngoga currently serves as the Senior Advisor on International Partnerships, the AU Border Programme and Regional Security Mechanisms in the Office of the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security at the African Union Commission.
Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of Africa’s leading voices in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Between 2014 and 2021, he headed the Conflict Prevention and Early Warning Division under the African Union Peace and Security Department, where he oversaw initiatives aimed at strengthening early warning systems, preventive diplomacy and cooperation between the African Union and regional bodies.
During his tenure, Ambassador Ngoga contributed to peace and stabilization efforts in conflict-affected regions including Libya, the Sahel, the Central African Republic and the Horn of Africa. He also played a role in supporting the 2019 Central African Republic Global Agreement for Peace and National Reconciliation.
Before joining the AU’s conflict prevention leadership, he served with the African Union Mission to Somalia, where he supported military and counterterrorism operations.
His expertise spans several areas including counterterrorism, climate security, governance and institutional development.
Ambassador Ngoga studied at the University of Pennsylvania, Suffolk University and the Harvard Kennedy School. He has also undertaken specialized professional training with organizations such as NATO, the United Nations, the British Army’s Defence Intelligence and Security Centre and the National Defense University.
In addition to his AU responsibilities, Ambassador Ngoga serves on several international boards, including the UNDP Africa Borderlands Centre, the International Commission on Inclusive Peace and the Med-Or Foundation.
In 2024, he was appointed President of the Commission on Sponsorship and Marketing of the Burundi Rugby Federation.
Recognized for his contribution to peace and security initiatives across the continent, Ambassador Ngoga continues to champion strategic partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable development and stability in Africa.
