Kenya Power has announced planned electricity outages in various areas across five counties on Wednesday for maintenance and other operational needs. The affected counties include Nairobi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kakamega, Kajiado, and Nyeri.
In Nairobi, residents of Ngumba Estate and nearby areas will face power interruptions from 9 am to 5 pm.
In Kajiado, a wide stretch including Matasia, Saina, Kajiado Town, Kajiado Referral Hospital, Masai Polytechnic, Tata Chemicals, and more will be without power from 8 am to 5 pm.
In Elgeyo Marakwet, areas such as Chepsirei, Kapkayo, Teber, and Kocholwo Market will lose power between 10 am and 5 pm.
Kakamega’s Matungu region—including Matungu Market, Mayoni, Koyonzo, and adjacent locations—will also experience a 9 am to 5 pm outage.
In Nyeri, locations like Rititi, Gatunganga, Maganjo, Manorero, and surrounding markets, schools, and businesses will be affected from 9 am to 5 pm.
Kenya Power clarified that such planned interruptions are necessary for essential upgrades and maintenance, ensuring grid efficiency and reliability. Other causes for outages include emergency faults, vandalism, extreme weather, and even wildlife interference.
