The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has issued a warning to candidates applying for courses, highlighting common mistakes that could jeopardize their chances of successful placement.
In a detailed advisory shared on Monday via social media, KUCCPS emphasized the need for careful attention during the application process. One of the most frequent errors, the agency noted, is providing incorrect contact information—particularly mobile phone numbers—potentially resulting in missed critical communication.
Another common mistake involves leaving selected courses in the Course Basket without completing the application process. KUCCPS reminded applicants that they must click “Application/Revision” followed by “Apply Now” to officially submit their choices.
Applicants were also cautioned against applying for only one programme or filling in just one choice out of the four available. This significantly reduces the likelihood of being placed, especially for competitive courses like Medicine, Nursing, or Engineering.
“Applying for the same course across all choices is risky,” KUCCPS explained. “It’s advisable to diversify your selections to improve placement chances.”
KUCCPS further advised applicants to avoid randomly listing courses. Instead, they should arrange them by preference, with the most desired course as choice one and the least preferred as choice four. Incorrect prioritization could lead to missing out on a preferred course.
Lastly, KUCCPS warned applicants not to use the M-Pesa transaction ID when submitting their applications. Instead, they must use the eCitizen account ID, a series of alphabetical characters provided in the payment confirmation message.
The placement portal is currently open for applicants seeking to join degree programmes, TVET institutions, and TTCs for the September 2025 intake. KUCCPS has also established 63 support centres across all 47 counties, staffed with officers to assist applicants with the process.
The deadline for applications is April 30, 2025.
