The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) is set to launch a nationwide initiative targeting universities and higher learning institutions to address rising drug and substance abuse among students.
NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa stated that the initiative follows the recent release of a survey on drug use among university students in Kenya, which revealed alarming trends requiring urgent intervention. The program also aligns with a directive from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, calling for immediate action.
The authority plans to hold regional forums across the country, bringing together university administrators, students, staff, government agencies, and other key stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions. These forums will focus on prevention, rehabilitation, and awareness efforts, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with life skills to resist peer pressure and make informed choices.
NACADA urged all stakeholders to actively participate, highlighting that collective efforts are essential in the fight against drug abuse.
