Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has clarified that his differences with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula are based on differing perspectives rather than personal animosity. Speaking on Citizen TV, Natembeya expressed reservations about Wetang’ula’s leadership approach within the Luhya community, accusing him of exploiting the community for personal gain.
According to Natembeya, despite the Luhya community holding the Speaker position for nearly three decades, there remains a lack of unity and development. He highlighted concerns about poverty and underdevelopment in the Western Region, even with leaders holding top positions.
Addressing the recent altercation between his supporters and Wetang’ula’s at a burial in Trans Nzoia, Natembeya condemned the incident and called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations. He revealed that he had been warned of plans to disrupt the event but felt compelled to attend as the deceased was a member of his staff.
These remarks from Governor Natembeya follow Wetang’ula’s call for leaders to maintain decorum and dignity in their interactions. Natembeya emphasized that the disagreement with Wetang’ula stems from their differing viewpoints.
