Eight Kenyans have been crowned winners of the first-ever Tembea Kenya Capture Magical Kenya Photography Contest, aimed at showcasing off-the-beaten-track destinations, urban vibes, and hidden gems.
Organized by the Kenya Tourism Board, the contest attracted 3,860 entries, with 280 photos shortlisted and 80 making it to the finals. The competition featured eight categories: hidden gems, wildlife, cultural heritage, landscapes, people, adventure, urban vibes, and sustainable travel.
Tourism CS Rebecca Miano emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting lesser-known attractions to boost domestic and international tourism. Winners received cash prizes, with first-place winners earning Sh150,000, second place Sh70,000, and third place Sh30,000.
The winners in each category were Leah Mureithi (hidden gems), Carol Kuyo (sustainable travel), Samuel Kisamwa (people), Dalton Odemba (adventure), Mutahi Chiira (urban vibes), Felix Okaka (cultural heritage), Geoffrey Bagaka (landscape), and Solomon Ngari (wildlife).
