Farmers can look forward to heavy rainfall this week, but those planning outdoor activities may need to rethink as rains are forecasted to persist into the weekend. According to Dr. David Gikungu, director of Kenya Meteorological Services, the downpours will be widespread across western, central, and parts of northern Kenya, reducing only by Saturday.
Regions expecting the heaviest rains include Kisumu, Homabay, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Nakuru, and Central Kenya counties like Nyeri, Murang’a, and Nairobi. Coastal areas will experience lighter showers.
While the rains may boost harvests and mitigate food shortages, a UN report warns that Kenya remains in the hunger hotspots category alongside several other nations. The report highlights conflict, economic challenges, and climate change as primary drivers of worsening food insecurity, urging urgent action to prevent starvation and save livelihoods.
