The Ministry of Health is investigating the death of Nairobi-based Instagram influencer Lucy Wambui, who passed away following a cosmetic surgery at Omnicare Medical Clinic, also known as Body by Design. After her initial discharge on October 18, Wambui returned due to health issues and was referred to another hospital, where she later died in ICU.
Wambui, married to businessman Francis Ng’ang’a, CEO of Valley Road Motors, leaves behind two children. The Ministry confirmed her death stemmed from complications linked to the procedure and has tasked the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) with examining the clinic’s adherence to medical standards. As part of the investigation, the clinic’s plastic surgery services are suspended pending results.
Omnicare stated Wambui’s discharge was in good health, cooperating fully with authorities and honoring the family’s privacy. Meanwhile, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko extended his condolences, praising Wambui’s community impact.
The Ministry also released data from KMPDC, highlighting that surgical complaints, especially in obstetrics and gynecology, are the highest among medical grievances filed by Kenyans. Since 2019, nearly a quarter of all complaints have targeted surgical care, with billing issues also frequently reported. The council aims to address such cases to improve healthcare transparency and quality across Kenya.
