Detectives have destroyed narcotics valued at over Sh176.5 million at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, following a court process overseen by Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku.
John Onyango, Deputy Director of the DCI and representative of Director Mohamed Amin, stated that this destruction reflects the directorate’s steadfast commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse.
“Each gram of these drugs destroyed represents lives saved,” Onyango remarked.
The drugs disposed of included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, amphetamine, atilafetamine, cannabis (bhang), and flunitrazepam.
This haul was seized by anti-narcotics detectives during various operations aimed at tackling drug-related issues.
Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku praised the DCI for its efforts in protecting the nation and commended the collaborative work of all involved stakeholders.
She emphasized that the goal of such actions is to ensure community safety and protect society at large.
The drug destruction event was attended by Allan Mulama from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, Samuel Laboso from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, John Marete from the Directorate of Liaison and Corporate Communications, as well as officials from the Government Chemist and other prominent state agencies.
A report by the Institute for Security Studies, published on August 15, indicated that a backlog of ongoing and new drug trafficking court cases is contributing to keeping drug offenders on the streets.
