At least 12 people lost their lives Thursday night in a tragic road accident along the Njoro-Elburgon Road in Nakuru County. The crash involved a 14-seater matatu and a lorry at Arimi, a known accident black spot.
Police report that the matatu driver lost control, leading to a head-on collision with the lorry. Two other passengers were injured. Traffic commandant Fredrick Ochieng confirmed investigations are ongoing. Families gathered at the local mortuary for autopsies as part of the burial process.
The incident adds to a growing number of fatal road crashes in Kenya. Police statistics show over 4,280 deaths from road accidents between January and November 2024, surpassing figures from the same period in 2023. Authorities continue to campaign for road safety, citing major causes such as reckless overtaking, loss of control, and failure to maintain proper lanes.
