Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has expressed her satisfaction with the recent drop in fuel prices announced by the Energy Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
EPRA reported a significant decrease in the maximum retail prices for imported refined petroleum products for the October-November cycle. Effective from October 15 to November 14, Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will see price reductions of Sh8.18, Sh3.54, and Sh6.93 per litre, respectively.
“In Nairobi, Super Petrol will now retail at Sh180.66, Diesel at Sh168.06, and Kerosene at Sh151.39 starting at midnight,” EPRA stated.
This price reduction comes exactly two months after Opiyo Wandayi took over as the new Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary on August 14, succeeding Davis Chirchir.
Wandayi is among four Cabinet Secretaries from the Opposition ODM appointed by President William Ruto following a series of protests led by Gen Z activists, who demanded better governance and relief from the high cost of living.
Raila Odinga, the current chair of the African Union Commission and former leader of the Opposition, stated that Ruto had asked him to provide some ODM experts to assist in governance, a request he honored.
In response to the fuel price decrease, Wanga, an ODM member, noted that the appointed experts appear to be effective. “Breaking News: EPRA reduces petrol prices by Sh8.18, diesel by Sh3.54, and kerosene by Sh6.93. Our experts seem to be getting it right,” she tweeted shortly after the announcement.
During a burial service for lawyer Evans Oruenjo in Siaya on July 27, Raila shared that Ruto had requested his assistance in appointing experts from the opposition to help govern the country. “I told Ruto to wait for a pre-agreement, but he said he was in a hurry to establish a new Cabinet,” Raila recounted.
“I told him that if he felt overwhelmed, he should focus on making things work. He insisted he needed an effective government,” he added.
On July 24, Ruto nominated several individuals for key positions: Mbadi for Treasury, Wandayi for Energy, Joho for Mining, and Oparanya for MSMEs and Cooperatives Development.
