Wajir County’s Dela Ward MCA, Yussuf Ahmed Tolfiyow Hussein, who disappeared in September 2024 following an alleged abduction, was found alive on Saturday.
He was reunited with his family in Eastleigh, Nairobi, on March 8, 2025, after being escorted there by unidentified individuals. News of his return spread quickly, drawing neighbors and friends to his home, where a crowd gathered in celebration. His family later took him to a Nairobi hospital for medical evaluation.
The motive behind his disappearance remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing. Nairobi police boss George Sedah confirmed awareness of his return, stating that authorities would seek to speak with him.
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi welcomed the news, describing it as a moment of relief and joy for the community. He highlighted the months of anxiety and hope experienced by the people of Wajir since Hussein’s disappearance.
Several leaders, including Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow and Eldas MP Adan Keynan, expressed gratitude for his safe return.
Hussein, who also serves as Wajir County Assembly Minority Leader, vanished on the night of September 13, 2024, while traveling home from South C. His case drew attention after activist Bob Njagi, who was abducted in August 2024, claimed in a February 2025 interview that he had seen Hussein in captivity.
Last year, a body found in Wajir was initially thought to be his, but DNA tests confirmed otherwise. Police have denied involvement in his disappearance and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his abduction and release.
