Ukraine has expressed its willingness to accept a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement. However, its implementation depends on Russia’s approval.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the next move is now up to Moscow, emphasizing that President Donald Trump is eager to see the conflict come to an end. Rubio confirmed that he would present the offer to Russian officials, hoping for a positive response.
Meanwhile, Andriy Yermak, a top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stressed the importance of securing a “just peace” while safeguarding Ukraine’s interests. He acknowledged the role of U.S. and Saudi officials in facilitating productive discussions.
Regarding a potential rare minerals agreement between Ukraine and the U.S., Rubio clarified that while negotiations have taken place, the deal was not a focal point of the talks. He noted that both governments have been directed to finalize the agreement.
The proposed ceasefire aims to halt hostilities immediately, extending beyond Zelensky’s earlier call for a limited truce in the air and at sea. Rubio reiterated that lives continue to be lost daily, underscoring the urgency of a resolution. The international community now awaits Russia’s response to the offer.
