Twelve teams will compete in the second round of the Rift-Valley Prisons Mental Wellness football tournament, kicking off today at various prison facilities across the country.
This initiative, led by Rift-Valley Prisons Regional Commander Barnabas Keinom, aims to promote mental wellness through sports.
The highlight of the tournament will be the Pool ‘A’ match between Narok Main Prison and Kabarnet Prison at William Ole Ntimama Stadium. “We want to start this mission with a victory, as I believe my players can deliver strong results and set the tone for the regional title,” said Benson Lomeri, the coach of the Narok Prison team. In another group match, Eldama Ravine will host Nakuru Command.
In Pool ‘B’, Sotik Prison, fresh off an impressive 8-2 win against Bomet last week, will face Kilgoris at Sotik Prison, while Kericho Command takes on Bomet Main at Kericho Prison.
Pool ‘C’ features Kapsabet Prison, who will compete against Ngeria Farm at Kapsabet, and Eldoret will host Tambach.
In Pool ‘D’, Lodwar will take on Kitale Annex, while Kitale Main will renew their rivalry with Kitale Medium at Kitale Main. Nanyuki Main will host Maralal Prison in the only match of Pool ‘E’.
Finally, Pool ‘F’ will see Nairobi West square off against Naivasha Command at Nairobi West, while Kitengela faces Kajiado Main at Kitengela Prison.
The tournament was launched last month in Nakuru, where the hosts played to a goalless draw against Narok Prison.
