On Sunday, President William Ruto met with at least three leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During these discussions, Ruto and the leaders explored various areas for collaboration relevant to their respective countries.
In a meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Ruto emphasized the mutual interest in strengthening bilateral relations. He stated that Kenya and Finland aim to work together to empower their citizens and advance shared global goals.
“Kenya and Finland enjoy strong bilateral ties, bolstered by collaboration in areas of common interest. We are committed to enhancing our partnership to empower our citizens and pursue global objectives such as peace, security, and climate action,” Ruto remarked.
President Stubb added, “We share a consensus on many issues, including the need for UN reform. The choice is clear: multilateral cooperation or multipolar disorder.”
In another meeting with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Ruto expressed their agreement to enhance trade and investment between the two nations. This collaboration will focus on education, developing Special Economic Zones, implementing labor agreements, and expanding markets for Kenyan products.
“Kuwait has proven to be a valuable partner for Kenya in development. Our cooperation has led to significant infrastructure improvements that support our nation’s transformation,” Ruto stated.
Additionally, Ruto met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani to discuss the establishment of a Kenyan Embassy in Iraq, aiming to deepen bilateral relations. He noted that Kenya is looking to strengthen ties with Iraq and become a reliable partner in trade, agriculture, and labor mobility.
“Our broader focus is to secure markets for our tea, coffee, and beef in the Arab region,” Ruto said.
The President held these meetings alongside members of his delegation, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, among other Cabinet officials. Ruto is expected to engage with more leaders during his time in New York.
