President William Ruto has appointed former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Namwamba is among several high-profile nominations announced on Thursday. Others include:
- Margaret Nyambura Ndun’gu, former CS for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, nominated as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana.
- Getrude Angote, currently Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UNEP, nominated as High Commissioner to Zimbabwe.
- Andrew Karanja, former CS for Agriculture and Livestock Development, nominated as Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil.
A circular issued by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei highlighted the President’s intent to realign ministries, state departments, and the foreign service for better performance under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Key cabinet changes include:
- Mutahi Kagwe, former Health CS, nominated as Agriculture CS to replace Andrew Karanja.
- Lee Kinyanjui, Nakuru Governor, nominated as CS for Investment, Trade, and Industry, replacing Trade CS Salim Mvurya.
- William Kabogo, former Kiambu Governor, nominated as CS for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, replacing Margaret Nyambura.
- Kipchumba Murkomen, Sports CS, reassigned to the Ministry of Interior.
The President also made appointments to state corporations, including:
- Ndiritu Muriithi, Chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
- Anthony Mwaura, Chairperson of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority.
- Kembi Gitura, Chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital Board.
This marks the second major reshuffle by President Ruto aimed at enhancing governance and service delivery.
