ODM plans to hold grassroots elections in November, warning against any violence during the process. The party stated that anyone inciting violence will face automatic disqualification.
Outgoing ODM leader Raila Odinga emphasized the need for integrity, urging members to use the elections to strengthen unity across communities.
“These grassroots elections are vital for revitalizing our party at the local level. Let this be an exercise of unity, not division,” Raila said during a National Executive Council meeting in Mombasa, where the party’s new leadership structure was approved.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has been appointed as the new party leader, while Raila shifts his focus to his African Union Commission chairmanship campaign. Nyong’o will be supported by three deputies: Governors Abdulswamad Nassir (Mombasa) and Simba Arati (Kisii), along with Senator Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga).
