Baringo High School Principal Titus Ngetich has confirmed that no students were injured in the early morning fire that destroyed one of the school’s dormitories on Monday.
Ngetich stated that all students were safely evacuated, as most were already in class for their morning preparations when the blaze broke out at 5:30 AM.
“While we regret the loss of the building and many students’ belongings, everyone is safe,” Ngetich said.
Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma also affirmed the safety of the students, stating that his office will support the school in restoring normalcy.
County Director of Education Joseph Mwangi announced that the ministry will investigate the cause of the fire, which is currently unknown.
The Mama Ngina dormitory, one of the oldest and home to 75 students, may not present significant challenges for accommodating those affected.
Local officials, including Eldama Ravine Assistant County Commissioner David Cheruiyot and a team from the Kenya Red Cross Society, visited the school, pledging their support as students prepare for national examinations in October.
