Kenya has officially joined the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) to combat climate change. Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced this decision during a ministerial meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. MGI, launched in 2021, aims to plant 50 billion trees and reduce carbon emissions by 670 million tons across regions including Central Asia, West Asia, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative focuses on enhancing air quality, preventing soil erosion, and providing wildlife habitats. Kenya joins 10 other countries in this multilateral effort, with plans to establish a General Secretariat in Riyadh
