In a letter dated July 17, 2024, addressed to the Solicitor General, EACC Deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud stated that the Commission is a “total stranger” to the contents of the invitation related to the purported summit.
“Please note that the Commission is not involved in the assertions made by this individual and takes great exception to them,” Mohamud stated. “Specifically, the Commission is not a participant in this Forum and has not advised or requested any actions discussed in the letter, including organizing the event.”
The invitation letter, sent by whistleblower Lawrence Bosire Miruka, invited the Solicitor General and 17 other state agencies to what he described as an Economic Forum scheduled for July 22, 2024, at a hotel in Naivasha. Miruka claimed to have organized the forum based on advice or direction from the EACC.
Miruka’s letter extended invitations to several state agencies, including the Attorney General’s Office, EACC, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). He expressed that engaging in dialogue on economic issues among stakeholders could lead to lasting solutions for the country’s peace and prosperity.
In an interview, Miruka maintained that the Forum would proceed despite acknowledging his lack of funds to cover the expenses. He confirmed that no arrangements had been made to secure the venue but remained determined that the meeting would occur, even if postponed to allow for fundraising.
The EACC has advised state agencies and the public that it has never participated in, nor will it endorse, the proposed forum.
