In Nairobi’s bustling Lunga Lunga industrial zone, Dr. Gasheri Mugao, a former dentist, has carved a new path in the beauty industry. Leaving her government role at Ndaragwa Subcounty Hospital in 2015, she founded Sheth Naturals, driven by a passion for disease prevention through natural products.
Through the Sheth Group of Companies, Dr. Mugao champions beauty solutions that are both affordable and health-conscious, using natural butters and oils. Her commitment to transparency ensures that Sheth’s products are 100% natural, catering to African hair and skin care needs.
Sheth Organics, a branch of her company, works directly with farmers to secure high-quality raw materials, promoting sustainability and supporting local agriculture. The company’s flagship brands, Mizizi and Sheba, offer plant-based skincare and haircare solutions, replacing harmful chemicals with natural ingredients like honey and Reetha powder.
However, her journey has not been without challenges. Educating salons and consumers about the benefits of natural products has required persistent effort. Over the past year, Sheth Naturals has trained more than 1,600 salons, addressing gaps in African hair care knowledge.
As chair of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers SMEs Hub, Dr. Mugao advocates for structured standards in the natural beauty industry to combat consumer distrust due to market saturation. Her background in health sciences informs her mission—to make beauty a tool for public health, ensuring safe and effective products for African consumers.
