The long-awaited construction of Nairobi’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line, designed to reduce traffic congestion, is set to begin in 2025 following a Sh7.6 billion loan from Korea’s Export-Import Bank. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has restricted the tender to Korean firms, with the project planned to be completed within two years. Covering a 10.5 km stretch, the BRT line will include two-lane roads, bridges, 13 stations, and a dedicated BRT depot. The system will also incorporate electric vehicles with charging stations, aiming to meet the city’s sustainability goals. The project bidding is set to close on November 19, with site visits and mandatory pre-bidding meetings scheduled beforehand.
