The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Tuesday the suspension of two Kenyan marathoners for violations of anti-doping regulations.
Daniel Muindi received a three-year ban, effective July 10, after testing positive for the prohibited substance Norandrosterone. His case originated in May 2024, when he provided a urine sample at the Lima Marathon in Peru. The World Anti-Doping Agency’s laboratory in Rio de Janeiro reported the presence of Norandrosterone on June 27, leading to the AIU receiving an Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations form from Muindi on July 12. Consequently, his results from May 19 have been annulled, resulting in the forfeiture of any titles, awards, and appearance money.
Judith Jerubet was handed a two-year suspension after her urine sample, taken on March 24 prior to the Bank of China Wuhan Marathon in Wuhan, China, tested positive for Triamcinolone acetonide. The AIU reported that the accredited laboratory in Beijing confirmed the presence of this banned substance on April 18. Following several requests for clarification regarding a Notice of Charge, Jerubet failed to respond, leading the AIU to conclude that she had committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation. However, they found no evidence of intentional wrongdoing, resulting in the two-year ban.
