A tragic incident unfolded in Cherengany, Trans Nzoia County, where a two-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water-filled pit while playing at a neighbour’s compound.
The child was in the company of friends when he accidentally slipped into the open pit. He was quickly pulled out and rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to his parents, they heard screams before learning that their son had fallen into the pit. The incident occurred on the evening of April 4. Police have visited the scene and launched investigations. The boy’s body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem.
Elsewhere in Magadi, Kajiado County, two men were killed by a mob in connection with an alleged theft. The suspects were reportedly caught stealing gates along Marangara Road when an alarm was raised.
A crowd descended on the duo, attacking them with stones and machetes, fatally injuring both before police arrived. Their bodies were later collected and taken to the mortuary.
Authorities have condemned the incident, warning against mob justice and urging the public to hand over suspects to law enforcement.
Police cautioned that some individuals targeted by mobs may be innocent or wrongfully accused. The incident adds to a growing number of lynchings across the country, amid rising concerns over public distrust in law enforcement and the justice system.
