Police in Eldoret have arrested a man suspected of murdering a Form 2 student, believed to be his girlfriend.
The incident occurred at Gem Farm in Moiben sub-county, Uasin Gishu.
The suspect, a boda boda rider, surrendered to authorities on Friday and reportedly confessed to the crime.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the suspect picked up the girl from a local mixed secondary school before taking her to a lodging at Gem Farm, where they spent time together.
Later, the man called the area chief and informed him that he had killed the girl. He then proceeded to the nearby police station and reported the incident.
Police and local authorities rushed to the scene and found the victim’s body covered with a blanket.
Mwanthi confirmed that the suspect was arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue. While the motive remains unclear, initial reports suggest he may have strangled the girl following a dispute.
He urged parents to closely monitor their children’s movements, especially those in day schools, to ensure their safety.
The suspect is currently assisting with investigations and will face charges in court.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who strongly condemned the killing.
