A police officer accused of shooting and killing 17-year-old Ibrahim Ramadan Chege in Nairobi’s Majengo area has been disarmed and interdicted pending investigations. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, triggered violent protests that left at least four people dead and 37 others injured.
Authorities say the officer, who was conducting a search for a suspected drug trafficker, opened fire after being confronted by a group of youths. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Internal Affairs Unit are jointly investigating the case.
During the protests, rioters set police cars on fire, vandalized government offices, and injured three officers. Human rights groups have condemned the use of lethal force and are demanding justice. Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
