Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Kenya Forest Service (KFS) are battling multiple wildfires fueled by the dry season, with some blazes still active despite containment efforts.
Fires have affected Nairobi National Park, Aberdare ecosystem, Ruma National Park, and South Island National Park, among others. In Tsavo West and Mt. Elgon National Park, fires have been contained, though rangers remain on high alert.
KWS attributes the fires to human activities, including discarded cigarettes, arson, and honey harvesting. Preventive measures include aerial patrols, firebreaks, and collaborations with local authorities. The public is urged to report fire hazards via KWS toll-free 0800 597 000 or WhatsApp 0726661509.
