A Kenyan police officer succumbed to gunshot injuries on Sunday while receiving treatment after a clash with criminal gangs in Seguin, Pont-Sonde, Haiti.
The officer was part of a mission to dismantle gangs in the area when he was shot and later airlifted to Aspen Level Two Hospital, where he succumbed, MSS Haiti commander Godfrey Otunge confirmed.
This marks the first Kenyan casualty since their deployment in June 2024. The Kenyan contingent, part of a UN-backed international force, continues operations against gangs in Haiti’s Artibonite region.
