The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has restored access to its X and Facebook accounts after a cyber-attack that temporarily placed them under the control of hackers.
The breach, part of a recent wave of high-profile cyber-attacks, shocked Kenyans when cryptocurrency and blockchain scam content was posted on the accounts on Sunday. However, the DCI swiftly regained control and issued a statement assuring the public of its response.
“For some moment this evening, we experienced a cyber-attack on the DCI digital platforms (X and Facebook), but have since regained full control,” the agency confirmed.
DCI has since warned Kenyans to disregard the fraudulent posts and assured them that an investigation is underway to track down those responsible.
This incident follows similar cyber-attacks targeting major institutions, including Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), whose X account was hijacked and renamed “Deepseek AI,” and K24 TV, which also suffered a breach that led to multiple name changes before partial recovery.
Authorities have intensified efforts to curb the rising trend of cyber-attacks on official platforms, urging users to remain vigilant against misinformation.
