A man suspected of involvement in the September 12 abduction and assault of blogger Bruce John Khajira, also known as Chawa – 001, was apprehended at the Lunga Lunga border as he attempted to flee to Tanzania. Known by the alias Nyanya, the suspect had been evading authorities for months. His arrest came after coordinated efforts by detectives and the Immigration Department, who tracked his movements and forensic links to the crime scene.
Investigators connected Nyanya to both the primary and secondary crime sites and identified a rented grey Nissan Note used in the abduction. This vehicle, rented on August 20 and returned after the incident, was forensically placed at the Mombasa County construction site where Khajira was assaulted and at the Mwakirunge location where he was abandoned.
Four individuals, including Esther Muthoni and Abdul Hassan, have been charged in connection with the crime, while Mombasa County Lands Executive Hussein Mohamed has been granted an anticipatory bond as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) reviews the evidence for possible charges. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir also provided a statement to authorities regarding the incident.
